What's in a Name?
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
Sissebagamah, pronounced ‘sis-ah-bah-gaa-mah’ (Say it quickly and it
will roll off your tongue.) is the Ojibwe name for Bay Lake. Bay Lake’s
many bays, islands, and channels provided the area’s first residents with
an obvious name for this beautiful lake. Sissebagamah, roughly
translated, means “lake with arms going in many directions” or “lake with
many bays.”
Though the name may be hard to pronounce, we like the “north-woods”
quality that the old name gives the resort. And in the tradition of the
Native Americans, we want Sissebagamah RV Resort on Bay Lake to be
a place to get closer to nature, to slow down, relax and enjoy the
pleasures of Minnesota’s lake country.

What About Swimming at Sissebagamah?
Our shoreline is primarily scenic wetland, which doesn’t accommodate a
swimming beach. However, we have a sunning and wading area at the
waters edge. And we do furnish free paddleboats with swimming decks
and ladders. This is a fun way for our guests to enjoy the cool, clear
waters of Bay Lake.
